Vote Hove to Give Yourself Power

I hope Wards 1 and 2 voters have a chance to view the League of Women Voters Candidate Forum on Channel 6 or online. It was no surprise to see that Dean Hove was the most knowledgeable on every issue. Hove constantly stressed his intention to ask us what we want before he votes on the City Council.

Hoves opponent talked about things the City Council has no power to impact, like health care, revealing that she hasnt read the City Charter, but the last question demonstrated the clearest reason why we need to keep Dean Hove. All candidates were asked if they would vote to make Red Wing a Sanctuary City. Most took a definite "yes" or "no" position without consulting the people. Hove said he would research the issue first. A quick call to him after the forum revealed what I expected. Dean Hove said if Sanctuary City status comes before the City Council, he will hold public meetings and base his decision on citizen input. Hoves opponent thinks she has the right to make that decision for me and has already made up her mind.

Voters are going down a slippery slope this year. In Wards 1 and 2, our choice is between a return to an authoritarian local government (and probable hidden agenda), or keeping citizens in charge with Dean Hove on our side. Those who were around for the fight to save our riverfront will remember Dean Hove battling the "good old boys" on our City Council at the time, who thought they had the right to make decisions that would change Red Wing forever without citizen support. Dean won that fight for us, and he has kept us at the forefront of the decision process at City Hall.

If you want a say in whether or not Red Wing becomes a Sanctuary City, (and in whatever other trendy, media-driven political stunts are proposed in the next four years), please join me in voting to re-elect Dean Hove.

This is a paid endorsement letter to the editor.
