Alan Ellingson

Alan Gary Ellingson affectionately known as "Big Al" passed away peacefully holding the hand of his daughter in law and his son present to say good bye as he left us on Thursday June 28th, 2018 at United Hospital in St Paul Mn. He died of a massive heart attack at the age of 68. He was born December 16th 1949 to Julian and Beatrice Ellingson of Hawley MN. He graduated Hawley High School, served in the Army Reserve, and moved to Minneapolis to find better construction work. Al was a passionate and skilled woodworker who started working in the cabinet area of construction, so he didn't have to freeze outside framing homes. Al's Cabinets INC was started in his home garage in Burnsville MN that later grew into over 100 employees and multiple manufacturing facilities. He always told his son, if you are reliable, honest, and have a fair price, you will be ahead of most other construction companies. He retired in 2009 to Prescott Wi where he loved talking about football and motorcycles with all his friends around town.

Al was a very kind and generous man who helped a lot of people without ever expecting anything in return. He was a friend to many people from all walks of life. In the last few years he repeatedly would say that the one big thing he really learned with age was how important relationships are in life; relationships are what really matters most.

Throughout his life he enjoyed golfing, hunting birds, shooting guns, he loved NFL football, Harley Davidson motorcycles, and Corvette cars. Al's greatest joy was talking about his Grandchildren and showing videos and pictures to people of them. Al's sense of humor was unmatched and could make anyone laugh. There was no shortage of him teasing friends and family which was one of the many ways he showed love. He will be greatly missed by all that love him.

Al is survived by his Son and Daughter in law, 4 grandchildren named Riley, Reese, Hailey and Oliver. Al is also survived by 3 sisters and a brother and his mother Beatrice. Al is preceded in death by his brother Bob whom Al just adored and also proceeded in death by his father Julian.

To celebrate Al's extraordinary life, please join us for lunch and drinks Saturday July 7th 2018 at the Apple Valley Legion 14521 Granada Dr Apple Valley, MN from 12- 3pm.
